Rum has historically been labeled
as a "sweet" alcoholic beverage. This
flight does nothing to dispel this
stereotype! Loaded with sugar forward
rums and liqueur, even the sweetest teeth should
be satisfied.
Hailing from the Dominican Republic, Atlantico is distilled from cane juice and molasses. The producer utilizes the Solera method during production. This style uses different aged rums that were carefully selected and blended together by their third generation Master Blender. It is then aged in American whiskey barrels. Latin music star Enrique Iglesias has a share in the brand. It is bottled at 40% ABV or 80 proof.
Diplomático’s distillery lies at the feet of the Andes Mountains in La Miel, a town in Lara State, Venezuela. The area boasts great conditions for sugar cane growth and for rum production, with fertile lands, abundant water and a tropical weather.
Established in 1959, the distillery is unique as it houses three different distillation processes - Column, Double Retort Pot and Batch Kettle with Column - that are combined to deliver unique rums.
The Reserva Exclusive is produced from fermented sugar cane honey, and then aged in oak casks for up to twelve years. Inspired by the Champagne industry and their “dosage” method using a “liqueur d’expédition”, the producer integrates a wine liquor to define the profile and enhance the sweetness and smoothness. It is bottled at 40% ABV or 80 proof.
The base spirit of Bumbu is produced at West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados. After distillation, it is aged in first-fill Kentucky bourbon casks for up to 15 years. It then has undisclosed spices and flavorings added resulting in a very sweet beverage. Due to 40 g/L of additives, it is technically a rum "liqueur". It is then bottled at 35% ABV or 70 proof.
